Payments for people affected by COVID-19 restrictions

If your work has been affected by COVID-19 restrictions, the Australian Government is offering financial support. You may be eligible for the:

  • Pandemic Leave Disaster Payment
  • COVID-19 Disaster Payment
  • Crisis Payment for National Health Emergency (COVID-19).

The Pandemic Leave Disaster Payment

The Pandemic Leave Disaster Payment is a lump sum payment for people who have been affected by COVID-19. You can apply for the Pandemic Leave Disaster Payment if you can’t earn an income because you need to quarantine for 14 days, self-isolate in your home or care for someone with COVID-19.

The Pandemic Leave Disaster Payment is for people in any state or territory across Australia.

The COVID-19 Disaster Payment

The COVID-19 Disaster Payment is a one-off payment for people who have been affected by COVID-19. You can only get this payment if you are in a lockdown that lasts for more than seven days.

To be eligible for the COVID-19 Disaster Payment:

  • You can’t go to work and earn an income because the lockdown you are in lasts for more than seven days.
  • You can’t access leave payments from your employer.
  • You are not getting other support payments at the same time.

The Crisis Payment for National Health Emergency (COVID-19)

You may be eligible for the Crisis Payment for National Health Emergency (COVID-19). This a one-off payment for people who are affected by COVID-19.

To receive this payment you must be:

  • eligible for an income support payment or living allowance
  • experiencing extreme hardship with your finances
  • in Australia when you make a claim.

You must contact Services Australia within 14 days if you need to quarantine, self-isolate in your home or care for someone with COVID-19.

You can’t receive this payment if you are in a lockdown. This is because you are allowed to leave your home:

  • for essential work
  • to go to work
  • for support visits
  • to buy food and medicine.

Other payment supports

You may be eligible for other payment supports that aren’t part of the Pandemic Leave Disaster Payment or the COVID-19 Disaster Payment. Other payments can support you if you need help for more than 14 days.

If you need a long-term support payment, you may be eligible for:

  • JobKeeper Payment
  • Youth Allowance
  • Parenting Payment.
