Regional Victoria lowers restrictions

At 11.59pm on 16 September, regional Victoria moved into the Third Step in the government's road map.

Regional Victorians can now leave their homes whenever they like and can travel within regional Victoria. Though they still can’t travel to metropolitan Melbourne except for work, study or care.

The general principles on how to keep you and others safe still apply though, such as physical distancing and good hygiene. People also still have to wear masks and, if possible, keep working from home.

What’s changed?

The key changes to the restrictions are:

  • no more restrictions on leaving home
  • people can gather in groups of up to 10 people outdoors
  • visitors are allowed in your home from one other household – up to five people
  • all school students will be back in school from the beginning of Term 4
  • restaurants and cafes are open for outdoor seated service
  • all retail is open, including hairdressing and beauty services where a face covering can be worn.
