A guide to support people who have been through trauma

The Australian Government is providing funding to create a best practice guide for the disability sector to better support people with disability who have been through trauma. The Blue Knot Foundation will develop the guide that will help organisations and workers understand trauma and provide trauma-informed care to people with disability.

People with disability experience and witness trauma more often than people without disability, says Blue Knot Foundation president Dr Cathy Kezelman. This guide will give people in the sector a range of tools and strategies to better understand the impacts of trauma.

To develop the guide, Blue Knot will consult with people with disability, carers, family members, advocates and support workers. The guide will be available by June 2021.
