The OAIC in an Australian Government agency responsible for the freedom of information functions, privacy functions and information policy function detailed in the Australian Information Commissioner Act 2010. It provides information and advice on privacy to individuals, businesses and agencies via their enquiries line.    It accepts complaints from people concerned about the handling of their personal information by Australian, ACT and Norfolk Island government agencies and private sector organisations covered by the Privacy Act 1988. It may also initiate own motion investigations and conduct privacy audits of Australian and ACT Government agencies.
